transformation of a factory

This building on Molukkenstraat in Amsterdam was built in 1955 as the head office for the Royal Utermöhlen dressing factory. An exemplary example of a modernist concrete building with large glass fronts and slender steel frames. That is why it has been labeled with an “Order 2” status by the municipality of Amsterdam. These are monument worthy buildings with a special cultural-historical significance.

The ambition with the renovation and sustainability of this elegant building is the integration of a gas-free air-conditioning system, replacement of the frames by similar insulated aluminum profiles with triple glazing and the upgrading of the basement to a fully-fledged office floor.

In this regeneration, the complex of the former bandage factory has successfully get an upgrade inside and outside not any in it’s functinality but also in the sustainability, while remaining the elegance and characteristics from the 1950s architecture.
